American Idol's Adam Lambert Announces Album

American Idol's Adam Lambert Announces Album -- how's that for a lot of "A's"?
So Adam Lambert's debut album will appear in stores on November 24th. (One week after Idol winner Kris Allen's album). Just in time for Christmas. I likely won't be buying Adam's album as his style of music is too edgy for me - but I'm looking forward to seeing what Kris Allen, Danny Gokey, and Allison Iraheta come up with. Cheers!

And we have a winner! A New American Idol is crowned....

Well, I have to say some of the performances tonight were utterly painful but I won't name any names. I was surprised to see how many great stars were included in the duets and it was fun to see who former contestants were paired with.

And for those who didn't want to see the spoiler in the first paragraph....

Our new American Idol winner is ...

Kris Allen!

I was actually very surprised as I thought Adam Lambert would win - since he's become such a media darling... but personally I was happy to see Kris Allen become the new American Idol winner. Please don't send me hate messages -- I know many of you are adoring fans of Adam... but I think Kris will fill the "main stream" audience (ie country, pop) and Adam will go on to do great things for the rocker and alternative music fans.

Was anyone else surprised?

(Note: I think the Danny Gokey fans probably voted for Kris - which put him over the top.)

I also have to add that I'm totally and completely psyched for the new "So You Think You Can Dance!" The talent there is utterly amazing and I LOVE THAT SHOW!!!!!

Who Will Win American Idol?

I'd love your input on who you think will win American Idol this season... Adam Lambert or Kris Allen?

I kind of thought the "American Idol" song (the one producers select for the winner to have as their first single)... well... it was obviously written and geared for Adam Lambert's voice and range. It was kind of a mess when Kris sang it -- and the judges even commented that it was not in his range. Hmmm... who do you think the producers want to win?

I'd be interested in your thoughts... do you think the song was biased towards Adam? Who are you voting for?

... and it's down to 2 on American Idol!

Well, the votes are in and it's down to the final 2 on American Idol...

If you love Danny Gokey... you were sad to see him go home tonight. I'm hopeful he'll get straight to the recording studio and get his album going soon.

As for the final 2 -- it's down to Kris Allen and Adam Lambert.

Although it seems that Adam has had more of the spotlight (he's on the cover of People magazine this week....) I actually think that the fact that there was less than 1 million votes separating the top two contestants could put Kris as the next American Idol.

My theory is this.... There are many Danny haters and many Adam haters out there. There seems to be either passionate like or dislike for these two. But generally speaking Kris is either liked or okay. My guess is that all of the Danny fans will vote for Kris next week, pushing him to the top and it will be an incredible upset.

What do you think?

American Idol - Top 3 Perform

It has been an interesting ride this season of American Idol, and I've been considering how biased the judges seem this season. It is obvious they love Adam Lambert and even Simon Cowell has proclaimed that Adam will be the winner this season. In season's past, the judges have seemed to have their favorites, but not to the detriment of other contestants.

A few observations.

1) Simon chose an amazing song from U2 for Adam to sing (whereas the song chosen by Paula for Danny was almost completely unknown and did not showcase his voice, and the song for Kris was just a copy of the original).

2) Adam Lambert has gone last (prime performing spot) more than any of the other contestants remaining -- and he went last again tonight.

3) Adam has been given extra spotlights on entrances and staging (example: the red lit staircase from last week).

4) This is the first time in American Idol history (at least that I can recall) that Simon has actually urged viewers to vote for a specific contestant - Adam Lambert.

5) Simon helped get Adam a specific arrangement for the U2 song tonight, and accused Randy and Kara of not giving Kris an arrangement that would spotlight his voice. Both Randy and Kara proclaimed they didn't know they were allowed to do that....

6) Tonight specifically the judges were very distracting after performances by both Kris and Danny... arguing, teasing, Simon covering Paula's mouth so she couldn't speak... and yet no distractions just rave reviews after Adam's performances.

Hmmm... not biased at all. What do you think?

It will be interesting to see if America follows the preferences of the judges, or select one of the other contestants as the winner. At this point, I don't think it really matters who wins. They will all have careers in the music industry. Obviously the winner will be "owned" by American Idol for the first year of their contract and will have tremendous obligations to go on the circuit and be involved in loads of travel. The runner up will have to go on the American Idol tour, but may end up having more opportunities to record their album and even get it released before the winner does.

Here is a recap of the show tonight along with random musings. I've been accused of being an Adam hater / Danny lover... well, I do like Danny. I like Kris too. I think Adam is really talented, but I really do not enjoy his singing style - it doesn't mean I hate him - I just don't like Rock music... if you're a rocker fan, you probably love Adam. It comes down to personal taste.... to each his own -- and to the Anonymous reader out there who keeps submitting hate comments claiming that I am not allowed to have my opinion... well... I say... thanks for sharing yours. :) It would be my preference that Adam go home this week... so I don't have to fast-forward any more performances... but hey, that's just me.

Danny Gokey Well Paula selected a song called "Dance Little Sister" by Terrance Trent Darby.. who? What? I've never heard of the song, and apparently most of America hasn't either. Wow. It seems that it was not a song selected to showcase Danny very well, there was even a sax solo in the middle... strange. I thought he performed fairly well but it was not a favorite of mine. Kara and Simon criticized Danny's dancing even though Simon reiterated that this is a singing competition and said that the vocals were very very good. Simon agreed with me that the song was the wrong song choice. It would be interesting if America could vote on the song they wanted their favorite contestant to sing - rather than the judges. The judges could pick 3 or 4 song choices and America could vote. I like that idea... what do you think?

Kris Allen. Kara and Randy chose "Apologize" by One Republic for Kris. I was excited because I love the song and thought he'd do a great job. I liked that he was behind the piano, and he did a respectable job but I didn't think he made it his own. Kara agreed that he didn't make it his own. Then the arguing between the judges began...

Adam Lambert Simon selected "One" by U2 for Adam to perform. I have to say that I loved Adam's first outfit -- jeans, a denim/casual shirt. He looked great and I like that look on him better than the black rocker and pushing boundaries outfits he has worn in the past. I did like the first half until Adam hit the high notes and started his rocking screaming style. Then I have to admit I fast-forwarded the rest of the song. Simon patted himself on the back claiming it was a brilliant song choice, and a brilliant performance. "If you're not in the final next week it will be the greatest upset in this competition."

Danny Gokey. Danny's second song choice was "You are so Beautiful to Me" by Joe Cocker. I really loved the arrangement and thought Danny performed it beautifully. Randy "You're here because you can really, Really, REALLY sing!" Kara "That was stunning!" Paula "You left us all breathless". Simon "I would call that a vocal master class." So all of the judges enjoyed the performance. I think the only problem with a ballad is that it does not get people to spontaneously jump to their feet. It was beautiful, but will people be moved by it so much that it will convert to votes? I guess we'll see.

Kris Allen. "Heartless" by Kanye West. Wow, Kris was very brave to sing part accapella and then with not accompaniment except his guitar. He did a great job - but I think the same as Danny's last song -- will people vote? Did it make enough of an impact? Randy "I like that better than the original." Kara "it was bold, brave and fearless." Simon "I had written you out after your first performance, but that changed after this performance."

Adam Lambert. Aerosmith song (I didn't catch the name). Obviously a very rocker song - which I couldn't get through. But the crowd seemed to love it - and it was what the end of the competition needed - something to leave the crowd screaming and excited. Randy "You're one of the best that we've ever had on this stage." Kara "We'll see you at the finals." Simon "It's very easy to assume that you're going to sail through... Everyone should vote for you, and not assume."

Now that we're getting to the end of American Idol.. I'm getting excited for So You Think You Can Dance... (actually I like So You Think You Can Dance better than American Idol -- gasp!)

So I've predicted a few weeks ago based on Twitter traffic that Adam Lambert would win. I do think both Kris Allen and Danny Gokey have a chance -- in year's past the "rocker" has not gone through to the finals (seeming that America prefers the country or pop contestants), but this year may be different ... only time will tell.

2009 American Idol's Top 3

First I'd love to hear your opinion about Paula Abdul's performance on American Idol tonight. Did you like the techno sound? the dancing? the song? chime in and let me know what you think!

Personally I loved that Danny could laugh at himself and the "horror movie" last note in his song last night. I think the fact that he could admit that it was horrible and laugh about it - well, it made me respect him even more.

Doughtry performed their new single "No Surprise" which will be available on their album coming out in July. I liked the song, but remembered why I actually prefer the studio versions of Doughtry's music to the live performances. I love their songs, but Chris Doughtry's vibrato is a bit much for me when he sings live.

I could have done without the No Doubt performance. Gwen Stefani is just too out there for me. Your thoughts?

Okay... so now for the sad news. Allison Iraheta left the American Idol competition tonight. It was actually a surprise for me but at this stage it's hard to call. I think the home town visits next week will be interesting and either create a stronger fan base for each of the contestants as they get more connected with their favorite - or show some personality that may get fans to switch over to a different favorite. It will be fun to see how the hometown crowds react to Adam Lambert, Kris Allen, and Danny Gokey - our American Idol top 3.

American Idol - Rocking Performances

This week is a nightmare week for me on American Idol. I am not a hard rock fan and knowing that Slash was the mentor was a bit scary - thinking about all of the hard guitar, screaming and that the show would be less about musicality and more about rocking out.

First to perform was Adam Lambert. "Whole Lot of Love" by Led Zepplin. Trying to get past the creepy outfit, black eye makeup, open shirt with strange necklace, and that it felt like a load of screaming... He is truly creepy. Please make him stop! The scary thing to me is that on Twitter I saw a comment that Adam is the best thing to walk the earth since Jesus. Wow. That is the most horrible thought ever - that people are putting him up as a true "idol". This is a talent competition for pete's sake. Even the judges are holding him up: Kara "you're a rock god". I'm just shaking my head and feeling sad for the state of our society if a guy like this is being "worshipped".

Alison Iraheta. "Cry Baby" by Janis Joplin. Even though I don't love rock, I thought Alison did a good job - she can make almost anything sound good. Her voice is so mature and she's seeming more confident and personable as the week's go on. Plus when she sings, even singing rock, it does not feel like she was screaming. Randy didn't love the song. Kara "Janis is the right choice for you... but Piece of My Heart..." would have been better. Paula "You're downright fearless." Simon "Terrific vocal. but I wouldn't have chosen that song."

Duet by Kris and Danny "Renegade". I loved the harmonizing in the song. Their voices blended really well. I even liked the song choice. I did think Kris was a little out of his league in rocking but Danny held his own. I was wondering how they would do. I loved that they performed a more "classic rock" song rather than a "hard rock" song - much more to my liking.

Kris Allen. "Come Together" by the Beatles. I think the Beatles song tonality fit Kris much better than most other rock songs. But I do have to say it was so odd for me seeing him (a sweet looking face) trying to rock - just not a great fit for him. He did a pretty good job, but I'm concerned for him - I think he has a big enough fan base that he may be okay based on past performances. It's a hard call at this point as each contestant stands out in different ways. Randy "I appreciate you picking something where you could still be you." Kara "You're definitely the softer side of rock, but for me this was not a great performance." Simon "I actually didn't like it that much. It was like eating ice for lunch."

Danny Gokey. "Dream On" by Aerosmith. Another song I actually like. I'm a little scared about the scream at the end but we'll see how he does. Okay - so I liked most of the song but the screaming at the end was NOT GOOD. Sorry Danny... He just didn't hit it. Randy "I know this is not your genre, it was alright for me, but A+ for valiant effort." Kara "I think you took it a little too far. I don't see you on this type of song. But I commend you for taking chances." Paula "I don't know if this was the right song for you but I'm a huge fan of yours." Simon "The last note, it was like watching a horror movie. But I still think you're going to be safe." I did like Danny's response to the judges criticisms -- he's not cocky, knows he can do better, trying to take risks.

Duet by Allison and Adam. "Slow Ride" - what in the world were the tight striped pants that Adam was wearing. Okay enough of that - not a good choice in my opinion. I thought the duet was a bit contrived and there didn't seem to be much blending. But again the judges loved it. Randy "that was the bomb baby". Paula "the two of you are the perfect blend, the perfect marriage". Simon "In the battle of duets... You win the show tonight".

Definitely not my favorite show of the season.

At this point of the competition it's really difficult to predict outcomes. I wish Adam would go home this week and then I'd be happy with any of the others to win. But I think the scare from last week will get his fans voting fanatically this week - as well as the fact that the Rock genre is his style and those who love hard rock will probably like his performance this week.

My guess is that Kris will go home. What do you think?

Adam Lambert - Almost Eliminated in American Idol?

We're down to the top 5 for American Idol. Only 3 weeks away from the finale. I think at this point it could be any one's game to win.

I have to say that I was very glad they cut out the lipsyncing for the group number this week. It was really getting old. It's so much better to have them singing live -- I wonder if previous weeks had too much choreography to allow the contestants to sing well. Who knows why they would choose to lip sync on a "live" show. Needless to say, it was much better this week when it was actually live.

Happy birthday to Danny and Allison this past week. I loved the cake and food fight -- that was very fun to watch. Glad I don't have to clean up after them. :) -- Wow the bill was $6,000 to clean the mess up -- I guess I would have been happy to clean it up for that much money. :)

Announcing the bottom three - GASP. Adam Lambert is in the bottom three! Along with Matt Giraud Allen (not extremely surprised about those two). WOW.

I LOVE that both Danny and Allison are safe -- I like them both especially from last night. But wow, I didn't think there was any chance Adam would be in the bottom.

I loved Taylor Hicks performance - and remember why I liked him so much on Idol. His voice is so cool and he's so full of life and joy when he performs. He's so unique and that's what I like about him. Welcome back Taylor!

Down to the bottom two -- Kris Allen was sent back to safety. Another shocker. With Adam in the bottom 3 I think people were very surprised that he didn't quickly sent back to safety. It was only with the vaguest of hopes that Adam would be sent home, but alas my hopes were dashed as he was pronounced safe.

I do wonder if being in the bottom two this week will push Adam's fans into high gear - it could prove to be a reminder to them that his place is not a given. Best wishes to Matt Giraud at the end of his American Idol journey. It is quite an accomplishment to reach the top 5 in the season.

Anyway, that's the report from this week. Looking forward to next week and what's coming up.

Was anyone else as shocked as I with the bottom three contestants this week?

American Idol - Top 5 Perform - Rat Pack

Well, I missed the show last night - so I'm going to watch the TiVo version and put in my review before watching the results show. I've heard good and bad about the performances, so I'll be interested to see how it goes.

Rat Pack Theme for the evening...

I loved Jamie Foxx as a mentor. He is incredible and I'm sure he'll have loads of advice for the contestants.

Can anybody tell me WHAT that was that Paula was wearing? It looked like she was a wrapped present.

Kris Allen. "The Way You Look Tonight". I can see how Kris continues to grow on audience members - he is just who he is - what you see is what you get with him. I liked his song. I can see how teenage girls would be screaming for him. The crowd certainly seemed to like it, along with the judges. Simon was the only one who seemed to have any hesitations.

Allison Iraheta. "Someone to Watch Over Me". I love the song choice! Not only is it one of my favorite songs, I think her musky voice will make it completely memorable. Hands down, my favorite performance from Allison. Certainly a song I will buy from iTunes. Excellent! I think the song will bring her many more fans this week - as it was beautiful, refined, mature, incredible. Randy "I Loved it!" Kara "If that doesn't land you in the finals, I don't know what will." Simon "I have a horrible feeling that you could be in trouble tonight." Kara "Simon, I love you but you are crazy!"

Matt Giraud. "My Funny Valentine". It's not my favorite song choice. Although I think Matt did a fine job - there were a few rough spots. I think the genre fits his voice well and if he were to put out an album like that I'd consider buying it. The problem with Matt is that the other 4 contestants are really shining right now - both in personality and performing. So I think Matt will go home. Simon said it felt like the only authentic song tonight "absolutely brilliant".

Danny Gokey "Come Rain or Come Shine". Okay - just to gush again. I love Danny. His personality is SOOOO real and like-able and humble. He is a joy to watch and listen to. Hands-down my favorite of all of the contestants. I thought he did a great job on the song and the huge ending was really fun. This style really fit him! The crowd seemed to really like his performance as well. Randy "you are the only one I've heard so far tonight that could actually have an album of songs like that and win! ..." Kara "you had swag tonight.. the end of that performance was unbelievable, the rasp and the tone." Paula "steller!" Simon "what you had tonight was a swagger and confidence. I felt tonight you came out to prove a point. ... Outstanding".

Adam Lambert. "Feeling Good". I like the song, but his version felt so much like everything he's done, and with so much of his own twist it was not very enjoyable for me. I just can't past him. In my dreams he'd be going home, but with his popularity I'm sure that's not going to happen. Even the high notes are just insane. It's not pleasing to listen to - unless you're just a rocker fan. I just don't like him one little bit. (Sorry to all the Adam fans out there... I know I'm not the only one...) Randy "it was a little theatrical, but you are in the zone consistently dude." Kara "my mouth drops open every time you perform. confusing, shocking, sleezy, over the top, but I like you". Paula "you make me feel better than good." Simon "you want to win... "

I liked everything tonight except for Adam's performance. Perhaps it's because I love the Rat Pack style of music, and perhaps because everyone is raising their game.

It's hard to tell who will be in the bottom this week. My guess is Matt will go home. I would say Allison might be in the bottom three but her performance was so good - I'm not sure. If I could put Adam in the bottom I would, and then perhaps Kris. That would keep Danny and Allison safe. But who knows... I guess I'll find out in a few minutes. :)

American Idol Update

So we lost Lil Rounds and Anoop Desai this week on American Idol. I was actually out of town and unable to watch or review the show until after the results were announced.

Can anyone say they were surprised by the 2 eliminated this week?

I have also been watching trends on both Twitter and iTunes, and I have to say my prediction about the next American Idol winner has changed. I predict Adam Lambert will be the winner hands down. Although I personally will not be rushing out to buy his album, if downloads on iTunes are any indication, he has a load of fans out there who will. I just can't get past his "stage persona" yet - he's such a seasoned performer, it's difficult to relate to him as a person. As the weeks have gone on - I have to admit that I really do not like his voice that much. On top of that - seeing him sticking out his tongue to hit the high notes is not a pretty sight, even though he is a very cute guy. Obviously I can't say he's not talented. He is. Just not my taste at all.

I still prefer the voice, tambre and personality of Danny Gokey. I like Kris Allen as well and think even if they don't win, they will have big careers in the music industry.

Just my two cents for this week....

Oh -- and I was pleased to see our little David Archeleta's performance. I love his voice - and he's so cute you just want to pick him up and give him a hug. It will be fun to see if he can bridge the gap from cute and amazing kid into amazing seasoned performer. I think he has it in him. Go David go!

American Idol Makes Idol History!

American Idol is coming closer to the end.

Last night I predicted that the bottom three would include Anoop Desai, Lil Rounds, and Matt Giraud with Anoop going home.

It looks like Adam Lambert got his hair cut. I actually like it!

The show included an incredible performance by former AI contestant Jennifer Hudson. With a nice tribute video for Grammy and Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson, it was a great spotlight to what American Idol contestants can achieve -- even those who were not winners of the competition. (Congratulations to Jennifer on her recent engagement.)

The performance by Miley Cyrus was more toned down than I've seen her on stage before - it's almost like she's trying to create a transition between teeny bopper to serious artist - until close to the end when she was banging her head back and forth - it did not work with being in a beautiful evening gown - and then the whole performance got a bit messy. It wasn't as bad as I had anticipated. I think she's a better "studio performer" rather than live, but she has mass-market appealing songs - radio-friendly. They are packaging her well. When she was finished, I almost wanted the judges to chime in and give their criticisms... that would have been kind of fun.

So once the results show got started, we ended up with the bottom three as Anoop Desai, Lil Rounds, and Matt Giraud. (As predicted).

I have to say I was shocked that Anoop was safe and the bottom two ended up being Lil and Matt.

With over 36 million votes... wow... Matt Giraud was the contestant with the lowest votes. Quite a surprise for me tonight - not that he was in the bottom three but that he was the lowest of those in the bottom three. I was hoping the judges would save Matt... the crowd went wild when the judges pulled out their "save" and kept him in the comptetition. I wonder how it will affect his performances for the future - if he will work that much harder and if his fans will pull together to keep him.

Tonight made American Idol history - with the judges saving a contestant who they didn't feel deserved to be going home tonight.

Next week it means two people will be going home, and it's Disco week (that should be fun, and I can only imagine what Adam Lambert will pull out for that genre)...

American Idol - Performs Songs from the Cinema

Tonight's American Idol competition began with a spotlight on Quentin Tarantino as the Idols were to perform songs from the cinema. Interesting choice for someone to mentor the contestants. I think having a director assist the Idols in the whole performance aspect would be hugely beneficial. It will be interesting to see how Quentin's feedback affects the performances.

The judges took turns - only 2 judges for each contestant. I didn't like that... I wanted to hear what each of them thought for each contestant. It was the fallout from last week and having the show go over which made the judges decide not to talk as much. My thought was that there is one less singer this week, and they could have made the spotlight on Quentin Tarantino a bit shorter, and they would have been fine to give their normal feedback this week. Hopefully this will be the only week that they all don't give their critiques.

Allison Iraheta. "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" by Aerosmith. I love this song and thought Allison's voice would fit the tone of the song. I was very much looking forward to hearing how Allison could shine. But I was a little disappointed. I'm not sure if she was nervous or a little out of breath, and the outfit was distracting, but I didn't love it. I think I expected a bit more. It's not that she did a bad job, but just didn't meet my expectations. The judges seemed to love it. Simon "you are the girls only hope in this competition right now. You're getting stronger. ... I don't think I've heard a girl sing that song so well."

Anoop Desai. "Everything I do" by Bryan Adams. Quentin suggested Anoop make it a really big and growly song. Anoop didn't do that, he kept it soft and smooth. It seemed that he tried to make it big in some spots but it was still smooth. I thought it was a pretty version and nicely done. But it was not a performance that was memorable. Anoop is talented, but I think he'll be going home in the next few weeks. Randy "you have definitely found your zone... I thought you did a really good job." Kara "probably one of his best vocals".

Adam Lambert "Born to be Wild" from Easy Rider. (Just a side note... this past week I heard the song "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" and thought... Oh... Adam should take that song, change it to "Boys Just Want to Have Fun" and it would be a HUGE hit.)... Now back to my thoughts about Adam's performance. Well... all I can say is classic Adam. Just not my style at all! I'm sorry but give me a break... please! Holy cow he can certainly hit those high notes, and the crowd goes wild.. but I can't wait until it's over. Simon "I think vocally, incredible... the downside it was like watching the Rocky Horror Musical in parts... there is going to be a huge portion of the audience who would have loved that, there is also going to be another side who will absolutely despise it... I don't think that performance will be as popular as your one last week."

Matt Giraud. "To Really Love a Woman" by Bryan Adams. I liked Matt's performance. He had a few rough moments though. Comparing the fantastic performance by Adam (even though I'm one of the audience that despised it)... Matt's song didn't compare. The judges were critical... and based on that performance I'd think Matt will be in the bottom 3 this week.

Danny Gokey. "Endless Love" by Lionel Richie. What happened to Danny's glasses? I love Lionel Richie and love this song. But there is only one Lionel... and as Danny began I was a bit disappointed. But as the song continued I thought he made it his own but I felt like there was more that could have been done to really make it shine. I actually did like it, but didn't feel the connection as much this week as I have in the past. Paula "beautiful rendition". Simon "I can't fault the way you sang the song... I'm disappointed that we had the harp, and we had a very traditional version of the song. I was a bit bored that was all you did with it."

Kris Allen. "Falling Slowly" from the movie Once. I'm not sure I like the really slow songs and this one was quite slow and boring initially. Perhaps it was because I was not familiar with the song. I'm liking Kris more and more and think he's getting a big following. As the song went on, I had the thought that he could make a big hit with a song like that. It was beautifully done. Randy "Dude. It never quite caught on for me. It was pitchy from note one." Kara "Difficult to pick an obscure song like that. but for me it was one of your best moments."

Lil Rounds. "The Rose" by Bette Midler. I liked when Lil made the song sound Gospel - that was when she began to shine and made it her own rather than just a duplicate of Bette's version. She did a good job, but I didn't think it stood out as much as some of the others. My concern for her is that she will get lost tonight and end up in the bottom three. Simon "I think that you're getting this completely wrong... the song was too soft for you... there are no excuses any more."

Well, my TiVo cut off the last couple of minutes ... Lil's response to Simon's criticism. But at least all of the performances were there this week.

I think there were too many slow songs this week and no real standout performances except for Adam Lambert (even though I just saw posting on Twitter of Adam in drag... that is not going to hurt him at all because each week he just stands out... even to those of us who don't like his style.) I've been watching Tweets on Twitter go past and there are 6-12 posts for Adam to every 1 or 2 for Allison, Matt, Kris, and Danny.

My predictions for the bottom three are Anoop Desai, Lil Rounds and Matt Giraud. It's kind of a toss-up as to who will go home. With Anoop and Lil both in the bottom last week, and Anoop only 30,000 votes from going home last week... I predict Anoop will be going home. It will be interesting to see.

Question: Does being gay, performing in "alternative" venues, and having overtly gay images all over the internet (dressed in drag and in gay clubs)... does that affect how you view Adam Lambert, or affect his chances of becoming the next American Idol? I think in years past it would have made a big difference, but this year, it seems to not be in the press and not really hurting Adam's chances. I'd like to know what you think...

Predicting the Winner for American Idol 2009

I've been watching Twitter for the past few days tracking the contestants of American Idol. Based on what has been happening there, I would have to predict Adam Lambert as the next American Idol. Adam is mentioned at least twice as many times as Danny Gokey, and Kris Allen is getting up there in mentions as well. Now, I can't say every post is positive, but it is obvious who is getting the press and attention.

Obviously if Adam Lambert is the winner, it will be an interesting challenge for producers to help him create an album that is mainstream enough, but he most likely would do very well.

BUT, I would rather than Danny Gokey be the next American Idol - as I think he truly connects to people on an emotional level and I like his "real-ness" and "humility." I also love his voice and for sure will be buying his album when it comes out.

So review of tonight's elimination.

Last night I predicted the bottom three to be Scott MacIntyre, Anoop Desai, and Lil Rounds.

The bottom three: Anoop Desai, Scott MacIntyre, and Lil Rounds. -- Wow - 3 for 3.

I predicted Scott would be going home - it was close between Scott and Anoop (only 30,000 votes difference), but Scott ended up at the bottom and will be going home. The judges were split on whether or not to keep him around with the "save" but it came down to making a decision and Simon chose to make it the end of the competition. We all wish Scott luck in his future endeavors.

American Idol - Top 8 Perform

The American Idol contestants sang songs from the years they were born. I loved seeing the baby photos of the American Idol judges. Randy was darling. I would have liked to have seen actual baby photos of Simon, but they put up photos of him as a young boy instead.

(I didn't watch in time to vote, so hopefully my favorites will be around next week.)

Danny Gokey, April 24, 1980. (Happy Birthday soon Danny!) "Stand by Me". This is the first time Danny has performed that I didn't absolutely love it. Once he reached about half-way it was great, but the beginning felt slow and not as heart-felt and energetic as normal. I still love him, but this is not a song I'll be buying on iTunes.

Kris Allen, Kris reminds me a bit of Nick Lachey. June 21, 1985. "All She Wants to do is Dance". They had Kris down in the audience with an electric guitar - similar to Matt last week. It just doesn't work for me to have them down surrounded by girls clapping. I think they need to be up on stage performing for the whole crowd and TV audience rather than hidden in a group. I hope they don't keep positioning contestants that way. I did not like the song choice at all. It was so repetitive and boring for me. I like Kris, but the song was definitely not my favorite. Kara agreed with me :) Simon "indulgent, boring, forgettable, stupid stupid song choice." Randy agreed that the arrangement was "self-indulgent".

Lil Rounds, Oct 20, 1984. Her name truly is "Lil" -- I actually thought it was a stage name, but they cleared it up that it's really her full name. "What's Love Got to do With it." Ugh, I hated the song choice. What is up with the song choices tonight? The problem I have with Lil is not her singing - she can sing - it's that she kind of adopts the persona of whatever she is singing, rather than changing the song to fit her. Tonight felt like a bad copy of Tina Turner. Did not like it at all! Paula began by saying Lil looked hot -- it's always a bad sign when the judges focus first on how the contestants look. Paula even mentioned that Lil could not take the reins to create her own niche (wow, Paula Abdul not gushing positivity). Simon "we are not looking for a second or third rate copy of Tina Turner." Hey, it seems I have very similar critiques with the judges.

Anoop Desai, Dec 20, 1986. "True Colors". What in the world? Really people, there are SOOOO many great songs from the 80s, but obviously, they were not really getting it. Anoop did change up the ending to make it a better rendition, but it felt whiny and boring. I actually wanted to fast-forward it to get it over more quickly. The judges seemed to like the performance and I didn't really get it. Paula "Your choice of song was flawless." what? really? Simon "you're like a singing yo-yo - this week was very good... I don't think it was fantastic by the way..."

Maybe I'm just tired or something, but I really am not loving American Idol tonight. Sometimes it feels like everyone is "on" and the energy is incredible. The contestants are all talented, but tonight I haven't really felt inspired yet.

Scott MacIntyre, June 22, 1985. "The Search is Over." I actually like the song, and I like Scott, and he did an okay job. Probably my favorite performance from him to this point even with the pitchy problems - but that's not really saying much. Simon "I would suggest you go back to the piano next week... the song was horrible... " Randy "It didn't show you as a star." I think he's at risk for going home.

Allison Iraheta, April 27, 1992 (Happy birthday soon to you too Allison). "I Can't Make You Love Me". The song choice was great for Allison's growl-y and textured voice. It fit her tone really well. Probably my favorite song choice of the night so far. I predict Allison will go on to have a great first album (if she stays true to her style and voice as well as has good songs). Partly because her voice is unique and you could hear her on the radio and know instantly who she was. Paula even mentioned the fact that "you hear one note and know it's Allison". Simon "I thought that was very good... you've got to make YOU a bit more likeable... I don't think your personality is coming through..." Randy mentioned that Allison reminds him of Season 1 winner Kelly Clarkson. "You're one of the best of the night." Kara "Let's go make a record man..."

Matt Giraud, May 11, 1985. "Part Time Lover" by Stevie Wonder. Wow. This boy can sing! Great song choice to showcase his talent. However there were a few rough moments when the words got really fast. I liked it. Hope it will go a long way to keeping Matt around for a few more weeks. Randy "vocally one of the best of the night." Kara "incredible on every level". Paula "two-words... standing o" Simon: "million times better than last week, well done."

Hmmm.. it's looking like the order of contestants has been based on either quality or song choice -- getting better and better as the night goes on. (Except for Danny because I just love him). But putting Adam at the end seems like a huge push from the producers of American Idol to put him in the forefront again. It will be interesting to see if the performance order reflects in America's voting.

Are you freaking kidding me???? TiVo cut off the rest of the show! ARGHHHHHH!!!!

Whew -- I found a video of Adam Lambert performing Mad World -- so the rest of you who missed it like me can see it too.

Adam Lambert Jan 29, 1982. "Mad World". I didn't recognize the song, but the high ranges showcased his voice. I thought his sitting position, lighting (basically singing in the dark the whole song) and the camera angles were a bit strange. I liked that he didn't get into the screaming stuff. But not my favorite. Simon "words are unnecessary... but I'm going to give you a standing ovation."

Hmm... not biased at all. Okay, Adam is talented it's true. And he is cute, even though I can't tell if he is rocker/feminine or what, and he has a darling smile. But I still can't get any type of emotional connection with his performances. I know I'm not alone in this as commented on Facebook and Twitter, but the media seems to be loving Adam Lambert right now... Again... I don't really get it.

So if I had to predict the bottom 3: I'd say Scott MacIntyre, Anoop Desai, and Lil Rounds. And I think Scott will be going home. I'd love your thoughts as well... am I alone in not buying into the Adam Lambert fan club? Who do you think will be sent home this week?

American Idol - One more gone

I do love American Idol, but I am getting a little bored by the lip sync group numbers. It looks so fake. Is this what we can expect for the American Idol tour? Come on. Maybe they sound horrible together. Who knows. But you'd think that since American Idol is claiming they are LIVE, they would actually be LIVE.

David Cook proved why he was the winner from last season. He did a great job! This is a nice platform to launch new singles - I bet David Cook's latest single will be the top download on iTunes soon. So... even though I really liked David Archuleta better last season and I could listen to him sing all the time, David Cook I think is more main-stream. But I did want to cut the drummer's hair - that has got to be distracting to have it in your face so you can't see. Several of the guitar players could have used a nice trim as well. :)

Ahhhh. My laptop is almost out of battery and I left my power cord at work.... hopefully I can get this done and posted before it shuts down.

The bottom three: Megan Joy (when she flapped her arms and cawed going to the chairs I was really embarrassed for her -- what in the world what that? certainly not something a star would be doing), Allison Iraheta (I was surprised by that one), and Anoop Desai (not a huge surprise). Sending Allison back to safety was obvious.

I do feel bad for Megan - but I think America got it right in sending her home. She had a good start by being quirky and different, but it became strange and I think it was her time to go. I still think she's a really cute girl and seems like a darling mother. I'm glad she took a risk and at least gave it a shot.

American Idol - Top 9 Reviews

Well -- American Idol contestants performed some of the most popular downloaded songs on iTunes.

First, I have to comment about the performing order. I'm not sure how they select the order of contestants to perform, but obviously those who go later in the competition seem to have an advantage.

Second, Simon -- I love you and think you're right most of the time, but WHAT IS UP WITH YOUR HAIR? Holy cow... it looks SO bad! ("Not to be rude." haha). It was kind of a flat top tonight but parted down the middle. It reminded me of the parting of the Red Sea from the 10 Commandments. :)

Here are my comments about tonight's American Idol (I would love to hear your opinions as well):

Anoop Desai: Usher "Caught Up". Anoop is a good singer. I didn't like the performance nor the song choice for him, and he seemed like he was trying to be intense. It didn't come across well for me. Simon's comment that it was "a complete and utter mess" I thought was a bit harsh, but I did agree that it didn't really work for him. I predict he will be in the bottom 3 this week.

Megan Joy: Bob Marley "Turn Your Lights Down Low". I actually liked Megan during the auditions and I know some who love her. I think she's a darling girl, but she is beginning to feel stagnant and I can't wait for her performances to be over. She could have potential and if she could really find her niche and make everything her own, she would do better. I did not like her song choice this week at all. It felt really flat. Simon said, "boring, indulgent monotonous." Randy "like watching paint dry." I do think if her response had been humble and funny rather than a flippant comment she may have a chance to stay, but as it is, unless someone else really messes up, I think she's at risk for going home. I think she'll be in the bottom 3 for sure.

Danny Gokey: Rascal Flatts "What Hurts the Most". I love him. Have I said before that I love him? (Big grin). He is SO REAL. That is what I love the most. I actually got goosebumps during his performance. The crowd seemed to feel it too and Cara nailed it when she commented "you moved everyone in this room emotionally." Even Simon loved him "It was your best performance of the season." This is one I'll for sure buy.

Allison Iraheta: No Doubt "Don't Speak". So I didn't like this one at all. It felt like she was yelling the song and even Simon commented similarly. She really can sing and I think she's safe this week, but I didn't think there was any real connection.

Scott MacIntyre: Billy Joel "Just the Way You Are." I really like Billy Joel and this song, but it was kind of painful to listen tonight. I actually like Scott as a person (not that I know him, but I like what he seems to be). However, I have a hard time listening to him sing - it feels to me like the same tone and feeling through every single song - no dynamics and the tone is not my favorite. BUT... it's personal taste here, because he obviously can sing. Just not someone that I would ever pay to hear sing. Since he was in the bottom 3 last week, I actually think he could go home this week, and possibly end up keeping Megan in the competition.

Matt Giraud: The Fray "You Found Me". I found Matt's performance down in the audience surrounded by fans a bit strange. I didn't really like the song that much, but he did a good job. I just didn't think it showcased him very much. Simon "I didn't get it at all. Very uptight." I actually did agree with Simon in the fact that he seemed to not really be himself - more like trying to be someone else. I wonder if since Matt was in the bottom three last week, if his fans will band together to keep him here another week. He really is talented, but I do wonder if he has found a fan base that will be loyal enough to keep him around.

Lil Rounds: Celine Dion "I Surrender". When Lil started to sing, I was worried. I thought it was going to be a mess. But she actually did a really good job. I was impressed. My concern for her is that she may not have enough of a "Lil Rounds" flavor in everything she does - she kind of becomes what she is singing, rather than taking the song and making it "Lil". She really can sing though! "Your personality is being sucked out of you" (Simon). Lil's daughter is darling - and hugging Randy was priceless. That actually may end up keeping Lil around (haha).

Adam Lambert: Wild Cherries "Play that Funky Music". I actually love this song, but "ick" is all I can say. Obviously Adam made it completely his style (felt like something you might see Mick Jagger or even Twisted Sister or some hard rock group doing, but again, I did not like it at all. His performance felt like he was just screaming it - he can hit crazy notes. I am sure others will love it - but I absolutely hated it! Funny that Paula mentioned Mick Jagger and Stephen Tyler. He is so cute and I really want to like him, but I just can't. Obviously he is going to be wildly popular for a long time and have a fantastic career, but ugh. (Actually I felt the same way about Chris Doughtry when he was on American Idol - I hated his vibrato - but I love him now and love the Doughtry album. So there may be a chance that Adam will grow on me, but for now, I don't think so.)

Kris Allen: "Ain't No Sunshine". Kris is growing on me. I think he always seems to be himself and brings his own style to whatever he does. The first week I thought he didn't stand out enough, but he's doing great. I loved his performance. I can easily see him having a great career. Simon "Your best performance so far."

My predictions for the bottom three tomorrow: Anoop, Megan and Scott. But as for who will go home - it's really a toss up for me. What do you think???

American Idol - What's up with the Lip Syncing?

With over 36 million votes from last night it seems American Idol is still going strong.

But what was up with the lip-syncing for the opening number. Totally cheesy. I wonder if they are just preparing the contestants for future concerts (jk). I don't know if they were trying to use "studio" recording rather than live or if it was using the old mikes or what. But wow - it was BAD and completely obvious! I was NOT impressed!

Was anyone else bugged besides me? (Please sound off about lip-syncing on American Idol!)

Is it okay to tout a "live" competition but have it succumb to the lip sync crutch? Why? Why would they even try it? It's obvious the contestants didn't know how to "hide" their mouths against their mikes - and so poorly executed. Why did they just not sing live? Was it for the sound quality of a group performing in a huge venue?

Anyway, on to the recap...

The bottom three: Matt Giraud (wow, I was surprised by this one. If it had been week 1 or 2 then I might have agreed, but I thought he was proving himself the past few weeks). Michael Sarver (predicted this one). Scott MacIntyre. Wow - I actually thought that between Scott and Megan - it would have been Megan in the bottom three.

And I'm sure I'll be run out of town on this one but I thought the duet between Joss Stone and Smokey Robinson was terrible. They were each okay singing individually, but together it felt like a mess. Perhaps it was the combination or the version mix but I did not like it at all!

The bottom 2: They sent Scott MacIntryre back to safety. And then it was down to Michael and Matt. Kind of a surprising bottom 2.

STEVIE WONDER! Wahoo! I love Stevie Wonder. There is no one else like him! Loved the medley he performed.

So the American Idol contestant going home is....

Michael Sarver. (Good bye and good luck!) I like Michael and wish him the best. Best quote of the night: (Michael) "I have to sing after Stevie, oh crap!" :)

Finally - American Idol Top 10 Recap

So I finally got the chance to review American Idol from Last night (while I'm TiVo-ing the results show from tonight). We'll see how well I can do. :)

American Idol celebrates Motown!

Matt Giraud: "Let's Get it On". I loved Matt's version of the song. Very soulful. I think he is really starting to shine. The first week or two I wondered if he would stand out enough, but tonight he really did Motown justice.

Kris Allen: "How Sweet It Is". He's pretty good, and I think his performance will get him through another week. But I don't think he stands out enough as an individual to get to the top 5.

Scott MacIntyre: "You Can't Hurry Love". Okay, so I've really tried to take the best I could from Scott's performances, but I just have a hard time listening to him. I would never buy an album that he did - it's just the tone/quality of his voice that I don't love. But I know a few people who really love listening - so obviously it's just personal taste. He's talented, but just not my taste.

Megan Joy: "For Once in My Life". Honestly, I thought the song was a mess. All of the judges agreed. I wasn't sure if she has a cold or if it was too low for her, but it did not work at all. She is so different but I wonder if people will relate to her style in comparison with some of the others. I know people who love her the most, but some comments I've received indicate that others really think she is terrible. It's probably either a love or hate thing. I did agree with the judges that she's at risk and since she's been in the bottom before, I think she may be going home tomorrow (tonight).

Anoop Desai: "Ooh Baby Baby". I just thought the song was way too slow and I got bored and wanted to fast forward. He can sing well, but I didn't like the song choice for him at all - especially in this venue. You either need energy or tons of emotion to connect with the audience. He just did the song well, but no real connection for me.

Michael Sarver: "Ain't To Proud to Beg". I like Michael but I don't think he's an American Idol star. I'm afraid his performances the past couple of weeks have kind of been messy, just singing, rather than really shining.

Lil Rounds: "Heat Wave". Wow - what's up with the hair? I'm sure it was a throw back to the original Motown stylings along with the outfit, but wo... I think Lil can really sing well. I'm sure she'll have a career after American Idol is over, but I'm not loving her lately. I think she's kind of lost her own individual identity. I don't see her in a specific niche and that's a problem for this kind of competition.

Adam Lambert: "The Tracks of My Tears". Wo - again with the hair on this show. I know I've commented before that I felt that Adam was hiding behind his hair. He was not hiding tonight. I liked seeing his face much better - but it did not feel at all like what you would expect from "Adam Lambert". Even the song choice was very different. I'm wondering how Adam fans will respond to the performance. I don't like his style AT ALL - and tonight didn't change my opinion. I just don't think there is an emotional connection between him and the music and the audience. But obviously many people feel differently than I do. I didn't like the song choice or performance, but that's just me. The judges all gush over him - and I don't get it. And his responses to the judges comments do not feel genuine to me. It feels like the "polite and expected thank you". Okay - enough of that. He will obviously have a huge career but I won't be rushing out to buy his album.

Danny Gokey: "Get Ready". Perma grin for me! I love Danny! He just connects with the music and has a huge soul. He has the coolest voice. Even though the song choice was not my favorite - I wish he would have had a huge shining moment in the song - but the whole thing was just upbeat and fun rather than having a building climax. But I still loved it. Gasp "clumsy and amateurish" from Simon. What?!? It's obvious that Simon is pulling for Adam to win the whole competition. (Just like I'm pulling for Danny -- to each his own.)

Allison Iraheta: "Papa Was a Rolling Stone". She still has a cool rocker voice. For sure she is going to have a great and successful album (if she gets the right direction on the songs to include). She's still not my favorite and I thought the song choice was rambling and didn't blow me away. But she's so unique I think her fan base will keep her around.

So my predictions about the bottom three: I think Megan Joy, Michael Sarver will for sure be in the bottom 2, and the third will either be Scott MacIntyre, or Anoop Desai. I predict Megan Joy will go home.

Okay - so now I'm posting - and then I'll watch the results show and see how well I did. :) Fun...

American Idol Goes Country

I think some of the American Idol contestants will do very well singing country. I'm not sure how Adam Lambert will twist a country song to his style, but I feel sure he'll do it. Anyway, here are my reviews from tonight's American Idol show.

Michael Sarver: Garth Brooks "Ain't Goin' Down". I just don't think anyone can do a Garth Brooks song justice. There is only one Garth! It was kind of a mess for me although Michael looked like he was having fun.

Allison Iraheta: Patty Loveless "Blame it on Your Heart". Even though she is not my favorite, I think Allison did a very good job. I predict she'll be around for quite a while and although she won't win the competition, she will go on to have a great music career.

Kris Allen: Garth Brooks "To Make You Feel My Love". I actually really liked the way Kris performed the song (except for the last note). But again, no one can really compete with Garth. However, it was different enough that I thought it was good.

Lil Rounds: Martina McBride "Independence Day". So her performance was good, but it is fairly evident that some people just are not made to sing country music. I think if she had put her own R&B spin on the song, perhaps it would have been better - making it her own, rather than just singing it okay. (I did think it was funny that Simon couldn't get her name right and kept calling her "little".) LOL.

Adam Lambert: Johnny Cash "Ring of Fire" He just comes across as being cocky for me. I loved Randy Travis' reaction to Adam's nail polish and the version of the song. Oh my heck, what a strange version of the song. I wonder how Johnny Cash would respond to that! Obviously it was Adam's style. I did not like it AT ALL. But he will have a fan base. Simon's comments: "What the hell was that?" LOL. "Indulgent rubbish, and horrific." I actually was glad Simon was vocal about not liking it and his response was priceless.

Scott MacIntyre: Martina McBride "Wild Angels". He does a pretty good job and the song was okay. It just didn't seem to be something that was spectacular. He is likeable and his responses back to the judges was nicely done. I know people who love him, but he's not my favorite.

Alexis Grace: Dolly Parton "Jolene". She can sing well, but I thought the song was really boring and repetitive. I'm not sure if she'll be around for next week, and the audience reaction was polite.

Danny Gokey: Carrie Underwood "Jesus Take the Wheel". Brought tears to my eyes. He truly has a gift of expression in his music. I loved it!!!! Still my favorite! Can't wait until he has an album. And the audience reaction went on and on.

Anoop Desai: Willie Nelson "You're Always on My Mind". Anoop did a great job. It was much better than last week. His response to the positive feedback from the judges was a little over-confident and may hurt him.

Megan Joy: "I Go Walking After Midnight". She is so unique. I like her, but because she is so different I'm not sure she'll get enough of the main-stream voters. She is certainly talented and a cute girl. (Did she change her name this week? Last week she was going by Megan Joy Corkrey.) Even being sick, she did great.

Matt Giraud: Carrie Underwood "So Small". He sang very well. I like him. Not sure what else I can say about him.

My dream would be that Adam Lambert would be eliminated this week based on his performance. But obviously he won't go home. But I think those at risk are Michael Sarver and Lil Rounds, and perhaps Megan Joy or Anoop. It's hard to say at this point. It will be fun to see. Who do you think will be eliminated next?

American Idol - Fixed?

As reported by TV Guide:
Another week, another "scandalous" (and unsubstantiated) bit of American Idol buzz.

This time, the talk is that Season 8's final four have already been decided on by producers and judges, and that two of said "chosen ones" in fact have been ruled out as possible winners.

As whispered to the New York Daily News' Gatecrasher column, a female Idol staffer is going around claiming that "the last four are going to be Danny Gokey, Lil Rounds, Adam Lambert and Alexis Grace." When asked if this was mere opinion or fact, the employee attested, "Those are the people" — suggesting that Idol execs are steering the results, and perhaps have done so in the past.

The series' supposed snitch also is alleging that Idol mucky-mucks have ruled out Adam and Lil as eventual winners because "they're too much like" past runners-up Chris Daughtry and Fantasia, respectively.

So, though Adam and Lil may be the better singers of the supposed final four, "The producers really want it to be Danny of Alexis," the loose-lipped show staffer is said to be avowing.

Fox reps have no comment on the alleged tinkering.

What's your take, Idol fans? Do you think the show would dare to attempt to manipulate the results? If so, do you think this has been going on all along, or perhaps was instituted after Ruben emerged as a clinker of an Idol?

Reviews of the American Idol Top 13 of 2009!

So I've been a bit distracted with work lately, and haven't typically had time to watch American Idol until several days after airing (thank heavens for TiVo!) Which has meant no real reviews of performances as the results have already aired before I have had time to watch.

(But please note -- I have already predicted Danny as the winner -- several weeks ago. I want to go on record that my prediction still stands. big grin.)

Also quick note: I love the new judge Kara. She gives great feedback, is well-spoken and I like the fact that she can hold her own against Simon.

So here are the recaps and my thoughts about each contestants' performance tonight:

Lil Rounds: I like her. I think she'll have a good shot at success whether she wins American Idol or not. I think the only thing that might hurt her in this competition is that she seems too "put together" and at times America seems to vote for the underdog. However, the video about her life and the hardships she has experienced may help people connect to her. I thought she did a great job with her song "The Way She Makes Me Feel" by Michael Jackson. My guess is that she will make the top 5 at least. Simon's comment about hating what she was wearing was actually right. Her outfit was not really flattering on her and I think she'll get better at styling as time goes on.

Scott MacIntyre: "Keep the Faith". It was nice to have Scott behind the piano. He's a very talented piano player. Although the quality of his voice and tone is not as refined as many of the other contestants. I think he will continue on for a while as he is likeable and people will cheer for his success and overcoming his visual challenges.

Danny Gokey: "PYT". He has the coolest voice. I didn't love the jacket he was wearing but I LOVED his performance. He certainly knows how to get a crowd going. I think I had a perma-grin while he was performing. He is so likeable and already my favorite hands-down. I love his humility, and the joy he transmits while singing. The fact that he can be real about his dancing (admitting it's hard to sing and dance together). LOVE HIM!!!

Michael Sarver: "You're Not Alone". I like Michael. I have from the beginning. But I was not blown away by the song or performance. Perhaps it's coming from following Danny and the passion and energy, but it kind of fell flat for me, seeming to be at one level. He did a good job, but just not spectacular. The judges all seemed to like him, and he did sing well, but again, not my favorite. I think he runs the risk of having his performances not be as memorable as some of the others.

Jasmine Murray: "I'll Be There". It was nice for her to choose a song that Michael Jackson sang when he was young, as her voice fit the tone fairly well. She seemed to hit a few pitchy places and I found myself getting bored with the song. She's a darling girl and can sing, but I am not sure she'll get the following she needs to stay very long. The judges didn't give her rave reviews either, they were almost half-hearted compliments.

Kris Allen: "Remember the Time". The fact that he is married may hurt his popularity. He's so cute and typically the young girls vote for the cute single guys. I did not like the song choice or the version he performed. It felt boring and slow. I don't think it showcased his voice at all. I don't know if dancing around and playing the guitar made him sound bad but it definitely was not my favorite. I think with him being married and with this performance he may be at risk for going home this week. Interesting that Simon mentioned "not bringing out the wife so early".

Allison Iraheta: "Give In to Me". She will get the rocker vote this year for sure. I like the quality of her voice. She is not my personal favorite but I think she'll get pretty far. The only risk I see is that she seems a little too cocky and a bit immature (but she's 16 and that's kind of to be expected.) She reminds me of Miley Cyrus when she speaks and performs. That may convert into tons of votes for her. Time will tell.

Anoop Desai: "Beat It". He is very likeable and cute. I am glad he is in the top 13. I think if he can get a cool hair cut and younger style, he'll do well. The hair is going in the right direction, but not quite there yet. Honestly the song choice was the worst of the night so far. It did NOTHING to showcase his voice. I did not like anything about the choice. If people are going to vote based on tonight's performance alone, I predict he will go home. There is a chance he will stay because people like him but I actually think he is at risk.

Jorge Nunez: "Never Can Say Goodbye" He is darling! He just exudes joy and delight. I didn't like the song choice for him, but man that boy can sing! I think he'll stick around as people connect to him, but it was not my favorite.

Megan Joy Corkrey: Wow what a perfect song for her. It completely fits her personality. "Rockin' Robin". She's darling and I love that her son is her world. It's obvious that she loves him. She's kind of funny when she performs - a little ditsy and new-agey, but also a bit alternative. She can certainly sing and is really likeable. The cawing at the end was corny but I actually liked the song. Paula chose the right word "Quirky" for her. I think she'll stay at least another week, but I'm not sure if she'll end up being around very long. Simon said it was a mess (and it was, but I thought it fit her.)

Adam Lambert: "Black and White" Some of my friends and family absolutely love him. I am not sure what it is about him but I cannot connect with him. I think perhaps it's the feeling that he's hiding behind his hair, or the fact that I can't tell if he's acting feminine or trying to be "in". But he goes from being kind of "rocker" to feeling a little "girly" for me. He is a really cute guy, but I have a hard time knowing what he is trying to be. He can sing for sure. I hate the black nail polish and the screaming performance (not my style). I predict he'll get to the top 3 or 4 and people will either love him or hate him. But for sure he is not my favorite. The fact that Paula gets emotional while gushing about him, I just don't understand it. I don't think he'll win because I think as time goes by, there will be a bit more of a disconnect and feeling of humility/sincerity that will come from him (as opposed to Danny).

Matt Giraud: "Human Nature". I loved that he was behind the piano. I did have a hard time with the performance though. I didn't like the song choice. It didn't really stand out or really showcase him. I like him but I think his connection to American Idol fans is less than some of the others and he won't get the votes he needs to continue on. Even the audience reaction was much less than many of the others.

Alexis Grace: "Dirty Diana". She's a cute girl. The only issue I have with her is that she's forgettable. I honestly did not remember her from Hollywood week or auditions. She can sing but I did not like the song choice at all. I actually think will go home this week.

So after all is said and done - it was a great American Idol this week. I thought everyone did well. There are a few standouts including Danny Gokey and Adam Lambert. But several are at risk. I think possibly Alexis Grace and Kris Allen will go home. If Kris stays then either Matt Giraud or Anoop Desai will go home. It's hard to tell at this stage -- it really depends on their hometowns and how many people connected with them during the audition process. I guess we'll all see tomorrow.
